COMFWB Comoros Chapter Participates in Conference on Social Work and Empowerment of Women and Young Victims of Forced Labour in the Blue Economy Sector
As part of the prevention of forced labour in Africa through skills and lifelong learning, the ILO-funded Kazana-Innovation project (of the Young Entrepreneurs Network) and the AMI-FAMILY Foundation organized a conference on social work and the empowerment of women and young victims of forced labor in the blue economy sector which took place in Moroni, at the conference room of the Maison de l'Emploi on May26 2022.
The speakers present at this event included trainers in the prevention and fight against forced labor, the National Director of Employment and Labor, the Director General of the Maison de l'Emploi, the Representative of the brigade of minors, the Project Coordinator for the development of the blue economy in the Comoros, Labor Inspector (Ministry of Youth, Employment and Labour, Sports, Arts and Culture), Listening Service Manager ) and Abdoulaye Thiam (UNICEF International Expert in the Comoros on social work).Also present at the event were The Coordinator of the PDEB of the ILO (Project for the Development of the Blue Economy in the Comoros), the Comoros Chapter Liaison Officer and their members , the Mwana Tsiwamdzima Association(protection of women and children, the President CAP Association Peace Council for the education and protection of children), plus 76 other participants.
The launch of this conference was made by the representative of the Commissioner for Human Rights and Freedoms, who shared that "the government remains alert to the injustices done to women and children, particularly on the issue of forced labor, and undertakes to work in close collaboration with the institutions dealing with this theme. The time has come to take measurable and lasting actions to help, support and accompany women victims of forced labor to empower themselves in order to integrate them into income-generating activities in the blue economy sector. A sector that is increasingly less valued and little exploited in the Comoros archipelago”. He explained that guiding these women and young people in the entrepreneurship of blue economy trades is one of the ways to meet their daily needs and to prevent and fight against the forced labor of women, young people and children.
In addition, the objective of the conference was to sensitize partners and stakeholders on the prevention and fight against forced labor against women and children, including people living with disabilities, as well as to promote social work, human rights and labour rights.
