COMESA launches Seychelles Chapter in captivating ceremony

The COMESA Confederation of National Women Association in Business officially added another chapter in its federation when it launched the Seychelles Chapter under the chairmanship of Mrs. Claudette Albert on 31 August 2021 at the Eden Blue Hotel.

The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan and his wife Linda attended the ceremony. The General Secretary of Comesa, Mrs. Chileshe Kapwepwe and the Chairperson of the COMFWB, Mrs. Maureen Sumbwe who were on official visit in the country were also present. The Minister for Investment, Mrs. Devika Vidot, the Minister for Tourism and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, the Minister for Family, Youth and Sports, Mrs. Marie Celine Zialor, the Chief Executive Officer of the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles, Mr. Alvin Laurence, the Governor of Central Bank of Seychelles, Ms. Caroline Abel, and the Chief Executive of the Enterprise Agency Seychelles (ESA), Ms. Angelique Appoo joined other guests in welcoming the platform in Seychelles.

President Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan honoured the gathering for the launch. He encouraged Seychellois women and youth to seize the opportunity offered to them by the COMFWB. He went on to commend the COMESA for their effort geared towards women entrepreneurs’ empowerment and development that will yield to economic growth.

The President also pledged support to the COMFWB Seychelles Chapter chairperson Mrs. Albert and her team, thanking them for the hard work and initiation.

Several other presentations were made by those present including the representatives from the COMESA commenting on the importance and benefits of such of a program in the country and thanking COMESA for the initiative. Mr. Miti made a presentation on the COMFWB depicting the organization vision, objectives and programmes in the members state.

The launching was broadcast live on the national Television channel, transmitted on YouTube and many other special local and international guests attended the ceremony virtually through the Zoom platform.

The Seychelles Chapter launch comes one month after the first COMFWB programme RECAMP One was conducted to train women entrepreneur in the country, build their capacity to commerce and trade in the region.
